100's of New Pets for Rm19! Room 19 has 100's of new pets in our class to care for - worms. Thanks to an old washing machine donated by Hannah's family we now have a recycled worm farm to recycle the school food scraps. This idea came from an article Miro reading group read about a group of school children who had done the same thing. This motivated us to try the same thing. Lots of fun was to be had when pulling apart the washing machine. We were surprised at how easy it was to take apart. Matua Vern and Mr Taylor were a big help when it came to helping us make a frame to hold the washing machine drum. Miro group had to write letters to Matua Vern asking for his help. They had to make designs and models for him to work from. They also had to dig the holes to firmly secure the frame to the ground. Last week Whaea Lindsey helped Miro group make an inviting home for the worms to live in. Finally we re-homed some worms from the Community Garden's Worm Farm. Now our next challenge is to find the best foods for them to eat.
